Manipulator Of Time: Year Sixty-Seven Million B.C.E.

The red gate graced the ancient past once more, and out stepped the man. He stood on the roof of a large building constructed of stone; it was just one of many in the grand city that reached beyond the horizon of his sight.

Moving to the very edge, he took in the grandeur; truly intelligence had come to the planet. The population was composed of small Saurian creatures, shorter than himself. They walked upon twp legs, their bodies clad in some manner of fabric cloth; despite being so different, he realized in an instant who they were.

The descendants of the herbivores who touched the crystal, all those millions of years ago.

"They've come so very from that day, so long ago."

As he watched them go about their daily lives, something aught his attention; vast shards of the red crystal that he seeded the planet with were being carted about by a small segment of the Saurian populace.

Curious as to what their use for the crystal was, he followed a small convoy of carts. The small, green Humanoids were removing the crystal from the ground, making room for a structure that would only add to the vastness of their city.

He stalked the convoy to the outskirts of the city; he was appalled. It was a dump site; they were discarding it like the shards were common trash! His eyes narrowed as a frown came to his lips; surely they were not worthy of the gifts that had been given to them. He felt anger at their dumping of the crystals, at disgracing that which gave them the ability to create civilization in the first place. He clenched his left hand into a fist, threatening to shatter the shard in his hand.

He knew that he would have to make those foolish beings pay for this disrespect and stupidity. The sheer ignorance of this action was unforgivable!

But then something else caught his eye, something he had no expected; a group of small, fur covered creatures with long arms and short legs emerged from the jungle. With caution they made their way to the very border of the city where the dump site sat.

To his amazement, the strange creatures looked upon the broken, discarded fragments; in their deeply set eyes he could see a sense of wonder, animated with something else that he had not expected.

"Oh, curiosity...?"

The small group dared to come closer, despite the Saurian convoy coming and going. But there was caution in their actions; they weren't as stupid as their looks conveyed. Several of the group went to the very edge of the dump site and took hold of many a fragment, their eyes transfixed upon the strange crystal that they held in their hands.

They studied the crystals, heads cocking back and forth as they took in the sight. Then, one held the crystal aloft on a whim; it howled in surprise as it saw that the world had suddenly turned red! Quickly the creature lowered the shard and saw the world in all its glorious color, then looked through the shard again, only to take it away.

The group followed suit, they all howled in wonder as the world changed colors between the crystal and their naked eyes; it was something they had never come across before. However, their discovery was interrupted by a Saurian who threw a rock at the group, chasing them away; but the most important thing was that they took the crystals with them as they vanished back into the wild, save for one which dropped its treasure.

The Saurian, content with the fact that they were gone griped about apes as he went back to work. However, what was interesting to the traveler was that the one ape who dropped its crystal came back. The crystal that it had dropped fell upon a stone, allowing large cracks to form in its lattice.

With amazement it watched as the crystal began to grow from the damaged area; the ape was fascinated by this. In a moment of brilliance the furry creature grabbed a large stone and struck the crystal, shattering it. The broken pieces instantly began to regrow, much to its shock and surprise.

Before a Saurian could come back to chase it away once again, however, the ape gathered up the shards and retreated back into the jungle, surely to show the others of the strange regrowth that it had witnessed.

"Those creatures showed curiosity. Perhaps then I should bless them with the gift. But first, I must report this to my Master."

He turned, and the red gate opened before his eyes. Upon entering once more, he had the feeling that he was going to give rise to something very familiar to him... but he couldn't tell why that was.

That creature wasn't anything like him; not the way that he was now. The gate closed, welcoming him back into the time stream, and as he traveled he had no idea that he had seen the rise of those who would become like him.

He had no idea that he had just witnessed the rise of Humanity.
