Another time, another place... the year A.D. 600. They had been there before out of pure necessity due to an accident which sent a girl named Marle through time.
However some would call it fate, for during that time they uncovered the plot of the foul Demon Yakra, whom desired the throne of the Kingdom of Guadria in which they resided 400 years in the future. Befriended by a rather odd fellow; a Humanoid shaped and talking, sword wielding frog who actually went by the name of Frog, they saved the kidnapped Queen Leene thereby restoring the normal flow of time to the period and saving who they would later know as Princess Nadia, part of the ruling family of their own time.
Much time had passed for the small group, many adventures and battles had come and gone. The little band of warriors found themselves back in the year A.D. 600 during a time of ever increasing desperation for the Kingdom of Guardia. The war against the great Magus, leader of the beasts who were known as Mystics had flared up; and they were on the offensive. Their forces, lead by General Ozzie tried to take the newly rebuilt Zenan Bridge.
Without that the Kingdom would be bottlenecked, their main route of supply cut off.
Once again fate had stepped in; the band of warriors once more came to the King's aid. They agreed to help hold the front line and by doing so ensuring the safety of their timeline.
However, before their little band could go off to the front lines, Queen Leene herself had asked to see Crono, the redheaded swordsman and leader; the man who charged to her aid when she was literally in the claws of Yarka, alone in her private chambers. Leaving the others to be with the King to get what details they could and thinking nothing strange about it, Crono went along with the Queen, making their way to the upper Eastern Wing of the palace.
